Faking the Rough Draft

(And thanks to archangelbeth for the analogy!)

Art derives from artifice and is inherently artificial. I may want to produce gorgeous authentic journal pages in my sketchbook, but I can’t. So I scan the weird little doodles and frantic blatherings in the sketchbook and produce them on the computer, because I grew up on the computer, goddamnit.

And they come out looking like this.

It WILL be great. And you will love it.

And we will all be waiting with baited breath to hear about it on your return (and listen to you eating the strange food you brought back).

My 60-70 year old parents just went on a tour through South Africa and Botswana, and previously Uganda. They said Botswana was fantastic! The guides and people there are very nice. Also, no one was eaten by a lion or died of dysentery. Maybe some zebras. No one we cared about.

Just stopping in to appreciate the journal pages and everything else in this blog of yours. Oh, and the Hidden Almanac while I am at it.

Thank you for brightening my feed reader and podcatcher on a regular basis.

Have a great trip. Everything will be fine. Really. Leopards die of laughter all the time. I am sure I read that in New Scientist sometime back.

p.s. What is the name of that lovely handwriting font? If it really is a font… 🙂
